South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, recently broke ground on a development of 49 new affordable homes in Whetstone alongside developers Jessup Partnerships and social housing provider Midland Heart.
Alberto met with the Chief Executive of Jessup Partnerships, Matt Moore, Executive Director of Midland Heart, Joe Reeves, and Blaby District Council’s Housing, Community & Environmental Services Portfolio Holder, Cllr Les Phillimore, at the site on Cambridge Road in Whetstone to see the new site and officially break ground with the new affordable homes expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Of the 49 new homes, 17 will be for shared ownership and 32 will be for affordable renting, and all new homes will be constructed to the highest environmental and energy efficiency standards.
Alberto said, “I was delighted to recently break ground at the new affordable housing development in Whetstone alongside Jessup Partnerships, Midland Heart, and Councillor Les Phillimore of Blaby District Council. More new affordable homes are sorely needed in South Leicestershire and the rest of the country, so I am really pleased to see more of these homes being built for my constituents locally”.
Councillor Les Phillimore, Housing, Community & Environmental Services Portfolio Holder at Blaby District Council added, “Across the Blaby District area, we have a considerable demand for affordable housing and working closely with the Housing Team at Blaby District Council, this joint development by Midland Heart and Jessup will bring an exciting development of 49 mixed tenure affordable homes to the Blaby District area and will provide, high quality and energy efficient brand new homes for families on our housing waiting list and replace a derelict car park eye sore”.
Alberto concluded, “I’m hugely grateful to both Jessup and Midlands Heart for their work on this much-needed development so far, but also to Blaby District Council who have recognised the local housing need and have prioritised the right sorts of developments on brownfield sites in South Leicestershire. This is a great, sustainable development, and I very much look forward to seeing the new homes again as their near completion toward the end of the year”.
