MP for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, has hailed the reopening of the Feilding Palmer Hospital in Lutterworth as a ‘tremendous positive’ for local people following a visit to the hospital today (28th January) as it began administering Coronavirus vaccinations.
Alberto visited the hospital to thank NHS staff for their hard work, and to meet local people receiving the Coronavirus vaccine.
Alberto has been lobbying local NHS bosses and the Government for the Feilding Palmer Hospital’s reopening since it’s temporary closure in May last year. A few weeks ago, the MP announced he had secured a commitment from the NHS to look at reopening the hospital as Hospital Vaccination Hub following some modifications to the site.
Alberto said, “I am delighted to see the Feilding Palmer Hospital now back up and running as a designated Hospital Vaccination Hub for my constituents and others in the county. The hospital’s reopening is a tremendous positive for the local area and the people of South Leicestershire who have long been calling for the hospital’s reopening. I am pleased to have successfully made the case for it’s use as a Covid vaccination hub and look forward to seeing the hospital continue to provide essential healthcare services for my constituents”.
Alberto added, “It was a pleasure too to visit the hospital and to meet the excellent NHS staff who are doing such fantastic work in rolling out the Coronavirus vaccine to those who need it most. With over 7 million people having now received the vaccine across the UK, we are making excellent progress and are well on track to meeting the target of vaccinating the top four priority groups by mid-February. My sincere thanks to all the NHS staff and wonderful volunteers involved in the vaccination program; it has been a long time coming, but we are finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel now”.
