South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, recently joined staff, families and VIP guests to help open the brand new New Lubbesthorpe Primary School building.
The school is the first within Lubbesthorpe, within the new housing estate known as New Lubbesthorpe. With its state-of-the-art classrooms, outstanding outdoor play space, a multi-use games area and a beautiful garden, the new accommodation provides the school with capacity, and space to expand in the future, if necessary.
Peter Merry CEO of the OWLS academy Trust and Headteacher at New Lubbesthorpe, said: “I’m delighted that we could be here today to mark the opening of the New Lubbesthorpe Primary School. The new building is absolutely fantastic and these new facilities will allow the school’s staff to build on the outstanding support they already provide pupils with in the Trust. Today has been a very special day for all of us here at the school - celebrating the official opening of our wonderful new building. Everyone, has been looking forward to moving into this building and the opportunities it will bring – especially for sports and outdoor provision. I’d like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who has been involved in getting us to this point – it’s been an amazing journey and I’m delighted that we have been able to mark this day in such a special way.”
As part of the ongoing ceremonies planned, the School, builders Cleggs and Sue Steer Community Pioneer intend to bury a time capsule on the school’s land to be opened in 2043.
“Any school is at the heart of its community, and I would therefore like to take this opportunity to wish the staff and the children all the very best in their endeavours and I hope they, and indeed future generations, will enjoy and benefit from these wonderful new premises.”
Ivan Ould, cabinet member for children and family services at Leicestershire County Council said: “We’re delighted to see New Lubbesthorpe Primary School, which will be a part of the OWLS Academy Trust, opening its doors for more than 400 children in the area. The facilities on offer are excellent and state of the art, and we are sure the school will provide an excellent learning environment for all new and future pupils.
“It’s a huge asset to New Lubbesthorpe and this school is adding to the continued development in the area.”
Alberto Costa MP said, “I was really delighted to attend the grand opening of the New Lubbesthorpe Primary School – alongside the brilliant Blaby District Council, the Owls Academy Trust have done a tremendous amount of work in ensuring this brand new £7 million school was ready for the new school year and with the fantastic leadership and staff in place I have no doubt that New Lubbesthorpe Primary will continue the excellent standard of education constituents in South Leicestershire are used to. The New Lubbesthorpe development is already a highly desirable place to live, and this new part of vital infrastructure will ensure the area has a great educational establishment for my new constituents to send their children”.
