Enderby residents danced their way to peak fitness on Saturday when Strictly Come Dancing’s Flavia Cacace-Mistry officially re-opened a local leisure centre.
Enderby Leisure and Golf Centre, which is managed in partnership with Blaby District Council, marked the second phase of its extensive refurbishment as complete on Saturday 1 February with a dance-inspired fitness class hosted by the dancer and a day of free activities.
Members were able to enjoy updated facilities at the new-look centre following improvements to the swimming pool, swim changing facilities and a brand new cafe and reception area.
Free fitness classes, challenges and swim sessions were also offered on the day, as was a Zumbathon with Miss Leicestershire. Sports hall activities ranging from a bouncy castle and badminton, through to karate, dodgeball and gymnastics took place and an evening roller disco marked the end of the free activity day.
Luke Parratt, general manager at Enderby Leisure Centre, said: “We were thrilled to welcome so many people from the local community through the doors of both our Enderby and Pavilion Leisure Centres recently to enjoy the improved facilities and free fitness activities.
“Flavia wowed everyone with her energy and showed us how dance can be a brilliant way to keep fit and stay active. Our members had a great time showcasing their best moves, and we hope our modern facilities that we’ve worked with the council to deliver will be enjoyed by many more families and individuals.”
Alberto Costa, Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire, said: “The fantastic refurbishment of the Enderby and Pavilion Leisure Centres by Blaby District Council and Everyone Active shows a real commitment to improving local people’s health and wellbeing and is a tremendous boost for my constituents in Blaby District.
“I would really like to commend all those involved with the construction of these brand new, state of the art facilities, they will be a real benefit for the local community and will certainly help keep South Leicestershire moving.”
Flavia Cacace-Mistry, said: “What a fantastic centre this is! The local community is so lucky to have this on their doorstep. It’s clear to see the amount of investment and love that’s gone into this facility – Blaby District Council and Everyone Active should be very proud of what they’ve achieved. It’s great to be here and be a part of its official reopening and I hope local people take full advantage of the day and the facilities now available to them.”
More than £4.9m has been invested by Blaby District Council to significantly improve the facilities at Enderby Leisure & Golf Centre and the Pavilion. Everyone Active received a 10-year extension to its contract with Blaby District Council in April 2019 to manage its leisure facilities.
The Pavilion Leisure Centre held its own open day on Saturday 25 January which saw locals enjoy a host of activities ranging from free gym and classes through to free squash coaching, a cheerleading session, basketball coaching, a bouncy castle and a market place in the sports hall with food stalls and local businesses.
Work carried out at the Pavilion includes an extended and refurbished gym, a new group cycling study which hosts virtual classes, refurbished changing rooms, a refreshed group fitness studio and a brand-new sports hall viewing lounge.
