South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has announced the launch of his annual Community Christmas Card Competition inviting all Primary School pupils in South Leicestershire to take part.
The competition, which again will be sponsored by Stoney Stanton-based Calor Gas, will invite all pupils from the Primary Schools in Alberto's constituency to design a festive handwritten picture that will be used as the MP’s official Christmas card, sent to a hundreds of addresses both locally and nationally.
Alberto said, “I am delighted to be launching my annual Community Christmas Card Competition again this year – last year’s Competition saw more South Leicestershire Primary Schools involved than ever before and we hope to do even better this year. It’s always excellent to see some of the truly brilliant entries from pupils across the constituency and I am very much looking forward to seeing another selection of wonderfully festive yuletide designs”.
Last year’s competition was won by Millfield LEAD Academy pupil Perdeep Sahota, with Perdeep opting for the traditional Snowman design. First Runner-up in Mr Costa’s competition last year was Charlie Gooch of St Mary’s CE Primary School in Bitteswell, and the Second Runner-up was Grace Summers of Enderby’s Danemill Primary.
The South Leicestershire MP visited the winning pupil’s school last year to present Perdeep with a special House of Commons prize for his winning entry, and the runners up also received runners-up prizes and certificates for their entries.
Alberto added, “I am very grateful to all of the schools and pupils that took part in last year’s Card Competition, and of course to South Leicestershire based Calor Gas who have once again very kindly offered to sponsor the Competition this year. All of the schools in South Leicestershire have an excellent creative side and some brilliantly talented pupils and so I really look forward to seeing this year’s entries next month”.
