South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa recently met with the Police & Crime Commissioner for Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland, and Leicestershire Police’s Area Commander for Blaby to discuss local concerns over ongoing anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving on the Blaby Bypass.
Alberto organised the meeting with Leicestershire’s PCC, the local police and Blaby District Councillor for North Whetstone, Councillor Susan Findlay, following serious concerns being raised by a number of residents in Whetstone and Blaby over recent months.
The MP has said that a large number of constituents have been in touch with complaints about the level of noise and reports of reckless driving from drivers who are meeting on the Bypass late on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Alberto said, “I was very pleased to recently meet with Leicestershire’s Police & Crime Commissioner, Inspector Palmer from Leicestershire Police and Cllr Susan Findlay to discuss local concerns about the spate of anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving on the Blaby Bypass. I understand that a number of car meets are taking place on the Bypass mainly over weekends with large numbers of cars often racing up and down the carriageway; this is unacceptable and reckless behaviour that endangers the lives of other road users and pedestrians and I am grateful to Leicestershire Police for being so responsive to my constituents.
I very much appreciate the work of our local PCC and Police in dealing with these ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour and would like to praise newly elected Cllr Susan Findlay who has already been getting to grips with the issue and in ensuring that local constituents are kept fully informed on the police’s action.”
Blaby District Councillor for North Whetstone, Susan Findlay, added, “I would like to thank Alberto for his support in addressing local concerns about the reckless driving on Blaby Bypass. I would also like to thank Inspector Stephen Palmer and his team at Blaby Police for all of their work in tackling this dangerous behaviour. I was grateful for the opportunity to put residents’ concerns directly to the Police & Crime Commissioner and I am assured that the police and Blaby District Council are working in partnership to stop the issues affecting residents here”.
