On Monday 21st March, Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, met with children from St Mary’s C of E Primary School, during their visit to the Houses of Parliament.
The pupils took part in an ‘adventure tour’, which took them through both the House of Commons, the House of Lords as well as Westminster Hall. Following the tour, the children met their local MP who took part in a question and answer session.
Mr Costa said “It was great to meet the children from St. Mary’s and hear from them how much they enjoyed their tour. They asked a number of excellent questions during the Q&A session on a range of topics, from the role of the Queen to the electoral process, which I was most impressed by.”
Head Teacher, Mrs Hazel Maher said “This provided the children an excellent opportunity to see how government works and how laws are made. It is great that they were able to meet their local MP and ask him a number of questions. We’re very grateful to Mr Costa for taking the time to meet the children.”
Mr Costa concluded “There are a number of services and facilities here for school children to see and I would strongly encourage all to review the offer of the education service. One child before leaving informed me that he would like to be an MP in the future, which was fantastic to hear.”
