On Friday 29th April, South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, was invited to formally open the newly refurbished Club House of Countesthorpe Cricket Club.
The Cricket Club was established in 1925 and has over 350 members, while it is also one of only two Clubs in Leicestershire that offers cricket for juniors, both male and female adults and disabled cricketers.
The Club were successful in obtaining a £15,000 grant from the SITA Trust, which along with contributions from members, have allowed the club to refurnish their Club House with a LED lighting, a new ceiling, new wall plastering and a newly reinstalled bar area.
Alberto said, "I was absolutely delighted to open Countesthorpe Cricket Club's new Club House. Not only are they one of the largest clubs in the County, but they are also a club steeped in history and have always had a proud place in the constituency".
Club Chairman, James Popplewell, said, "We will be celebrating the completion of the project by hosting a formal opening evening. We have arranged for our local MP, Alberto Costa, to attend and open the Club House for everyone to enjoy. We could not have done this without the funding from SITA Trust and the help of our Club members, who have worked exceptionally hard. I wanted to thank three Club members in particular, namely, Terry Swingler, Pete Clarke and Graham Popplewell, who have spent hours of their time working on the project."
Alberto concluded, "The Club have an extraordinary number of teams spanning all ages and they have had a profound and proud impact in the community by engaging people young and old through their passion for Cricket. I wish all the teams and members associated with the Club the very best of luck for the future".
