Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa MP, has praised the efforts of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister, Sir Alan Duncan, and his American counterparts for their assistance in ensuring that 9-year old Alex Goodwin has been allowed to stay in the US for life saving cancer treatment.
Alex, who is a constituent of Mr Costa’s in South Leicestershire, is currently receiving proton beam treatment in the United States for a rare type of bone cancer. Earlier this month, Alex’s family were informed that he would not be able to stay in the US for his treatment due to a visa issue. However following political intervention, the matter has now been resolved, and Alex will be enabled to stay in Kansas to receive his life saving treatment.
Alberto said, “I’m very grateful for the assistance of my fellow Leicestershire MP, and the Minister for Europe and the Americas, Sir Alan Duncan, as well as the American Consulate for their speedy intervention in this issue. This was truly an example of the ‘Special Relationship’ between the two nations working at its finest for a truly excellent cause”.
Alberto concluded, “My office has been in constant contact with Alex’s family throughout the entire process and more than anything I was pleased to have the opportunity to assist where possible. On both sides of the pond, we were all overjoyed to hear that Alex’s visa had been extended, and crucially that he will be able to stay in the US for the duration of his treatment. Of course, I wish the very best of luck for the future”.
