South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has visited Millfield LEAD Academy in Braunstone in order to present a prize to Perdeep Sahota, the winner of his annual Christmas Card design competition.
Earlier this year, Alberto again launched his annual competition, inviting primary school pupils in his constituency to design his 2017 Christmas card. With a record number of entries in this year’s competition, the winner, Perdeep Sahota, was today presented with a House of Commons prize for his winning effort featuring a Snowman on the cover.
The winning entry was chosen by Alberto and Mr Paul Blacklock, Operations Director of Calor Gas, who sponsored this year’s competition.
First Runner-up in Alberto's competition was Charlie Gooch of St Mary’s CE Primary School in Bitteswell, and the Second Runner-up was Grace Summers of Enderby’s Danemill Primary.
Alberto said, “My annual Christmas Card competition is one of the highlights of the year and so I was delighted to receive a record number of entries this time around. This year’s competition however was particularly difficult given the very high standard of entries from my young constituents and I was truly amazed to see so many excellent designs, hence why Perdeep deserves huge congratulations for his brilliant winning design”.
Mr John McMyler, Customer Operations Manager at Calor Gas, added, “We have been delighted to sponsor this competition once again. As a business with a large presence in the area we like to support the community and are grateful to Alberto for this opportunity to get involved with our local schools.”
Mr Peter Wood, Head Teacher of Millfield LEAD Academy, also said, “Millfield was delighted to take part in Alberto’s competition this year. It’s an excellent opportunity for our pupils to demonstrate their creative side and it’s fantastic of Alberto and Calor to invite pupils from the constituency to get involved. We’re also all very proud of Perdeep who is doing brilliantly in representing Millfield in South Leicestershire”.
Alberto concluded, “I am very grateful to Calor Gas for very kindly agreeing to again to sponsor my annual competition, and of course, to the schools that sent in their excellent entries. I am already very much looking forward to next year’s Christmas Card competition, and hope to involve more schools and South Leicestershire pupils than ever”.
