Last week, Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, met with RAF Airman Lewis Cooper to hear about the activities of the local branch of the Veterans Breakfast Club – an incentive set up to support local service personnel and Veterans in the South of Leicestershire.
The South Leicestershire Veterans Breakfast Club was set up by RAF Airman Cooper in August last year, however this local branch is one of many nationally and internationally with Veteran’s Breakfast Club’s being set up not only in the UK, but also Cyprus, Germany and Australia with an estimated 25,000 people attending the Clubs every year.
Alberto said, “I’m very proud to support the local branch of the Veterans Breakfast Club. Lewis has done an excellent job in setting up the club in the local area which provides an informal meeting place and an open invitation to servicemen and women, past and present, to meet up with each other in a social and supportive environment”.
Airman Cooper added, “Establishing the South Leicestershire Veterans breakfast club has been a really rewarding experience. Many people miss the bond and camaraderie that comes with forces life when they return to ‘Civvy Street’, and it’s clear that these breakfast clubs provide an opportunity for many local ex-service personnel to re-establish that bond with likeminded people.”
Alberto concluded, “I’m delighted to hear from Lewis that the Club has been particularly well attended thus far, it is of course an imperative that the hard working men and women of the Armed Forces have organisations like this which provide a more informal support network. I would encourage any active or ex-servicemen or women across Leicestershire to attend one of the Veteran’s Club’s events for a hearty breakfast and a great opportunity to socialise”.
The South Leicestershire Veterans Breakfast Club meets the last Saturday of every month at 10.00am at the Fox & Tiger Pub in Blaby – readers can visit www.afcvb.co.uk for search for South Leicestershire Veterans Breakfast Club on Facebook for further details.
