MP for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, has secured a commitment from local NHS bosses to look at reopening the Feilding Palmer Hospital in Lutterworth for use as a Covid-19 hospital vaccination hub for the people of Leicestershire.
The hospital has been temporarily closed since May, however Alberto has been making the case for the site’s use as a vaccination hub since the country’s vaccine rollout began.
Alberto has now secured a commitment from the local NHS organisations to look at reopening the town’s cottage hospital as a designated Covid vaccine hub by late January/early February.
Alberto said, “I am very pleased that I have managed to secure a firm commitment from the local NHS bodies to review the case for the reopening of Feilding Palmer Hospital as a vaccination hub for my constituents in South Leicestershire and other local people. I have long been making the case for Feilding Palmer’s use during the pandemic, and I very much welcome this very positive outcome. This hospital is a tremendous asset for our local communities in South Leicestershire, and constituents have often been in touch to request it’s use, and I am pleased that the NHS have heeded these calls”.
Alberto added, “This is a landmark development for residents in the area; I know constituents have been very happy to make their way to Leicester Racecourse in Oadby to receive their vaccine, but I have always been clear with residents that I want to make it as easy as possible for those eligible to receive their dose. I look forward to continuing working closely with our excellent NHS bodies to rollout the vaccine locally, and of course, look forward too to seeing the Feilding Palmer Hospital back up and running in the next few weeks”.
