On Saturday 3rd December, Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, was joined by representatives of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the Leader of Blaby District Council, Terry Richardson, and Blaby South Councillor, Marian Broomhead in supporting Small Business Saturday by visiting a number of small businesses in Blaby village.
Organised by the FSB, Small Business Saturday, is an annual event designed to promote small businesses in the local community and to emphasise the important contribution their trade makes to the regional economy.
Alberto said, “As a proud of advocate of small, local businesses, I was very pleased to visit a number of Blaby businesses on Saturday morning to coincide with Small Business Saturday. I’m delighted that we have such a broad, diverse range of small businesses in South Leicestershire and it’s important that their excellent work is highlighted so that constituents can continue to discover and frequent the great number of businesses we have in our community”.
Jennifer Thomas, Federation of Small Businesses Development Manager, added, “The FSB are grateful to Alberto for offering to support small businesses in Blaby through this annual campaign. It's so important that small businesses are given support from the public and shoppers, councils, MPs and government, year round, to ensure that our local economies thrive and our own high streets remain vibrant and individual. As 99.9% of the UKs businesses are SMEs, it's not difficult to choose to shop small, and it makes a huge difference when you consider that for every £1 spent in a local small business, 63 pence stays locally”.
Les Phillimore, Regional Chair of Leicestershire, Northampton and Rutland Federation of Small Businesses, said, “We’ve very grateful to our local MP, Leader of the Council and local Ward Councillor for joining us on Small Business Saturday in bustling Blaby village on Saturday morning. It’s great to see so many local businesses doing so well, Blaby is an excellent example of small businesses working together to support their community and customers”.
Alberto concluded, “I am immensely thankful to Jenny and Les from the FSB, as well as Terry and Marian from Blaby District Council, in joining me on Saturday morning to highlight the importance of local, small business. Small businesses make an incredible contribution to both the local and national economy and so I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet a number of business owners in Blaby to discuss their vitally important work.”
