South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, visited the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Southern Station, based at the Meridian Business Park, to thank the firefighters and staff for their response to the flooding that has affected parts of the county in recent weeks.
Alberto also visited to tour the station’s facilities and to meet with local firefighters and staff, including the Assistant Chief Fire and Rescue Service Officer for Leicestershire, to learn more about their roles and the work they do in keeping residents safe across Leicestershire.
Alberto said, “It was a real privilege to visit Southern Fire Station in my constituency and to personally thank the local crew for all of their brilliant work in keeping my constituents and others in the county safe. I appreciate it’s been a very busy few weeks for the Southern team with such terrible flooding in parts of Leicestershire, so I was very pleased to sincerely thank them for their work and of course to learn more about their role, the equipment they use and how they respond to a range of different emergencies”.
Callum Faint, Assistant Chief Fire and Rescue Service Officer, added, “We are really pleased to host Alberto’s visit to Southern Fire Station. Our staff always work tirelessly to ensure we meet the needs of our community, whether that is in an emergency or by enhancing their safety in their day to day life. It is nice for this to be recognised so positively and with a personal touch. I am very thankful to Alberto and his team for giving their time today.”
Alberto concluded, “I was delighted to meet Callum, Chris (Southern Station Manager) and the Green Watch Crew to hear about the tremendous importance of their work and how they keep my constituents in safe in all manner of situations. It was fascinating to learn about the wide range of equipment used by the team here, not just confined to fires, they respond to car collisions, chemical spills, major incidents and of course flooding and water rescue. Our brave firefighters deserve greater recognition for the brilliant work they do and I will be taking a few things away from my visit to take forward in the House of Commons to ensure firefighters have the support and funding they need to continue their very good work”.
