On Friday 18th May, Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, visited the Macmillan ‘Big Green Bus’ Information and Support Service during their visit to Blaby village centre.
The Information and Support Service are a dedicated mobile team of highly-qualified professionals that travel across the UK on a fleet of six green buses offering advice to those affected, living with or worried about cancer, and Alberto stopped by to speak to the team and welcome them to South Leicestershire during their visit.
Alberto said, “It was a real privilege to visit the Macmillan ‘Big Green Bus’ during their visit to Blaby. The Macmillan team provide a truly excellent service to members of the public, acting as a free, impartial and professional port of call for anyone who might be affected by cancer, have relatives affected by cancer or simply those who have questions about the condition”.
Margot Emery, Macmillan Partnership Manager for Leicestershire, said, “It is fantastic to have Alberto Costa MP come and visit the Mobile Information Service. It is a great opportunity for him to meet our dedicated Cancer Information Specialists and volunteers who offer accessible and high-quality information and support to people across Leicestershire.”
Alberto added, “In South Leicestershire, Macmillan have assisted people with applying for grants and accessing relevant benefits as well offering emotional support at the most difficult times in their lives. It was striking to learn that almost 3,000 people in my constituency alone are currently living with cancer, and with this number projected to almost double by 2030, it only reinforces the importance of services such as those offered by Macmillan which help to improve awareness and provide vitally important information”.
