On Friday 27th May, Alberto Costa MP visited an unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturer, UAV Tactical Systems (U-TacS), in his constituency of South Leicestershire in order to meet with senior staff and to tour their facility.
U-TacS are a joint venture by Elbit Systems and Thales UK and manufacture the Watchkeeper UAV for the British military which is used for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. U-TacS were awarded a contract by the Ministry of Defence for the Watchkeeper programme which was used by the British armed forces during operations in Afghanistan.
Alberto said, “I visited U-TacS in order to gain insight into the highly skilled work being undertaken within my constituency. This company provide an integral service that works very strongly with our armed forces in order to give them the intelligence and protection they require”.
Martin Fausset, Chief Executive of Elbit Systems UK, said “We were delighted to welcome Alberto to U-TacS where he had the chance to meet our highly skilled team, tour the facility and learn about our commitment to the UK in terms of investment and exports. We were also grateful for Alberto’s time and support and look forward to welcoming him back again in the future.”
Alberto concluded, “U-TacS employ a significant number of staff in highly skilled roles which I was very pleased to see, while they also utilise a large number of local suppliers and invest much money locally which is, of course, very beneficial. I also met a number of South Leicestershire constituents during my visit, which is clear evidence that U-TacS are contributing effectively to the local economy”.
