On Friday 29th April, South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, visited The Way of the Horse in Thurlaston to meet with staff and to tour their facilities.
The Way of the Horse is a Not for Profit Social Enterprise set up in 2015 to help disadvantaged children and adults with emotional trauma through ‘equine facilitated learning programmes’. These programmes emphasise the importance of body language and emotions in self help treatment.
Alberto said, "I really enjoyed meeting Dina, Derek and Bryony at The Way of the Horse this morning. Dina's enthusiasm and passion for her organisation is inspiring and I'm very pleased to hear of the very good work they do in assisting those with mental health issues".
Owner, Dina Hooton added, "We are hoping that Alberto’s visit to our premises will help boost our appeal and also give him a greater understanding of how these beautiful animals can change people’s lives through their natural behaviour. The lack of facilities within the local education system and National Health Service to handle the growing numbers of young people struggling to cope with mental health issues means that the present systems will begin to fail unless alternative providers such as us are given the finances and facilities to grow and help more local people in this area".
Alberto concluded, "I would like to thank the staff at The Way of the Horse for their kind invitation, it was a pleasure to get an insight into their methods and practices and the unique service they offer".
