South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa has welcomed the Government’s announcement that more than £20 billion will be invested to build new hospitals, including delivering on improvements to Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital.
As part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme, Leicester Royal Infirmary will receive new women’s and ICU services, a new midwifery-led unit will be built at Leicester General Hospital and new services inpatients, outpatients and day cases at Glenfield Hospital.
Alberto said, “I am delighted that the Government has restated its commitment to improving and constructing new hospitals across the country and that the three major hospitals in Leicestershire will soon be receiving new, specialist units. From new ICU and women’s services to a new midwifery-led unit, these improvements will bring huge benefits for my constituents in South Leicestershire and those in the wider city and county, and so I am really pleased that the Government is delivering on our manifesto commitments by investing in our NHS and ensuring that high quality health services remain free, accessible and efficient for all”.
Lord Markham, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Health and Social Care added, “We are investing in new NHS facilities across the country giving patients the certainty they can access world-leading care in state-of-the-art hospitals, both now and in years to come”.
