Earlier this week, South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa welcomed a group of over 50 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to Parliament for a tour around the Palace of Westminster and a special Q&A session with their local MP.
The 109th Leicester Countesthorpe St Andrews group of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts visited Westminster for a tour around Parliament before a Q&A session with Mr Costa and a special mock Parliamentary session with the group taking different sides on a debate about whether schools should continue teaching children on a Saturday.
Alberto said, “It was a tremendous pleasure to welcome the 109th troop from Countesthorpe down to Parliament earlier this week. The group were incredibly enthusiastic about all things Westminster, and they were fantastic in taking part in the mock Parliament session debating the hugely important issue of whether children should still attend school in a Saturday – unsurprisingly the ‘Noes’ were successful on this occasion, but it was really excellent to see such a wide group of ages from the group engaging so excellently in debate in discussion”.
Mr Jack Barber, County Youth Commissioner for Leicestershire Scouts added, “We were really grateful to Alberto and his team for making it possible for 53 of our young people and 18 adults to have a really memorable day at the Houses of Parliament. Everyone was really enthused by the incredible tour and really enjoyed taking part in the mock Parliamentary debate which Alberto ran for us. Scouting aims to offer amazing opportunities and Skills for Life, which this trip certainly allowed us to do”.
Alberto concluded, “As ever, I always try to encourage groups such as the 109th troop to visit Westminster, and to take full advantage of the brilliant Parliamentary services we have here, my door is always open to any community groups or constituents from South Leicestershire who might wish to visit Parliament in the future. I do sincerely hope the group enjoyed their visit earlier this week, and I very much look forward to welcoming another group very soon”.
