South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa has welcomed a range of new improvements for Hospital Lane in Blaby following a recent fatal collision and local concerns being raised about the safety of the road.
Following the collision on 2nd April earlier this month, Alberto wrote to Leicestershire County Council requesting that they review the survey of the country road in Blaby. The County Council have now confirmed that the road will soon be resurfaced to improve grip and that all road markings will also be refreshed.
Leicestershire County Council have also informed the MP that will soon be carrying out speed and flow surveys on Hospital Lane to see if a lowering of the speed limit, from the national speed limit, to 50mph may be needed.
Alberto said, “I most grateful to Leicestershire County Council for their swift action in reviewing the safety of Hospital Lane, Blaby following the tragic fatal collision earlier this month. A number of my constituents have been understandably concerned about the safety of this road for quite some time, and so I am very pleased that Hospital Lane will soon be resurfaced and refreshed for all road users”.
Blaby District Councillor for Countesthorpe, David Findlay added, “I would like to thank Alberto for raising this vitally important issue with Leicestershire County Council and I join him in welcoming the news that Leicestershire County Council are planning to resurface Hospital Lane to improve road grip and refresh the road markings. I know many of my residents in Countesthorpe use this road and will welcome this news, along with the new speed survey that will be undertaken to look at the case for reducing the speed limit on this stretch of road”.
Alberto concluded, “It is welcome news too that a new speed and flow survey will soon be carried out on the carriageway here; this will help inform the Council as to whether a new, lower speed limit would be beneficial for all concerned, and of course I will continue to follow this closely in order to ensure that the safety on Hospital Lane is improved for my constituents and all those using this busy country road”.
