South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has welcomed the recent award of over half a million pounds from the Football Foundation for a brand-new state of the art LED floodlit, third generation football pitch in Broughton Astley.
The £595,211 award from the Football Foundation has been given to Broughton Astley Parish Council as part of the village’s new £4.7m Sports Centre development. Work on the pitch will begin in October later this year and will be finished early next year.
Alberto said, “I am delighted to hear that the Parish Council have been successful in securing such a large grant from the brilliant Football Foundation. This is really excellent news for football fans in Broughton Astley and the wider county, the new pitch will be a fantastic addition to the exciting plans for the new Sports Centre taking shape in the village and I look forward to visiting the development once the works have finished”.
Mr Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, added, “Since 2000, the Football Foundation has awarded 274 grants worth £15.6m across Leicestershire County FA towards grassroots sports projects worth £28m and it is great to hear that that Broughton Astley Parish Council and Park will be the latest beneficiary. Funding from the Premier League, The FA and Government, delivered by the Foundation, will support the club in developing a brand new facility for the local community. Made possible by investment from the Premier League, The FA and the Government, via Sport England, the Football Foundation is supporting the grassroots game by improving access to high-quality football facilities across the country.”
Alberto concluded, “Grassroots football is the lifeblood of our villages and towns, and the Football Foundation are doing a tremendous job in supporting the sport up and down the country. This most generous grant in the form of a new state of the art, all weather pitch in Broughton Astley is the latest of a number of grants given to clubs in South Leicestershire, and I am immensely grateful to the Football Foundation for investing in sport in the county and the wider country”.
