The festive season is upon us and marks my first Christmas as the MP for South Leicestershire. Reflecting on my time in parliament so far, I am very pleased to say that our strong one-nation Conservative government has made an excellent start in delivering the commitments we outlined in our manifesto.
It has been an incredibly busy start to the new Parliament, with a range of new measures introduced and announced including 30 hours of free childcare, three million new apprenticeships and the National Living Wage to name just some of the measures. Alongside this, we have continued to make progress towards reducing our deficit and ensuring we move towards a long term financially stable and secure country.
In addition to supporting these Conservative manifesto pledges through Parliament, I have also joined the Justice Select Committee, a role which I am thoroughly enjoying. The committee recommended to government,
removing the criminal courts charge; which the government has confirmed it will do. I am grateful to the input from a senior Conservative volunteer in South Leicestershire who gave me very useful background information on this matter. She can be proud having helped serve her country.
In my constituency, we have also been very busy with the recent opening of the new constituency office in Blaby. The new office marks the first time in our constituency’s long history that we have a dedicated Parliamentary office for constituents to discuss their issues or problems. On this note it would seem timely to introduce three new members of staff who have joined my team, firstly, David Surtees and William Bateman will be heading up the new Parliamentary constituency office, while Narinder Pooni will be assisting me with my duties in Westminster, alongside Diana Thompson.
The opening of the new office marks both a busy and exciting time and with Christmas on the horizon I am greatly looking forward to the different festive events taking place across the constituency.
May I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
