On Friday 11th March 2016, Conservative Member of Parliament, Alberto Costa MP, visited the Marriott Hotel in his constituency of South Leicestershire in order to celebrate and support English Tourism Week.
Tourism is the third largest employer, both nationally and locally, and is one of the fastest growing industries in Leicestershire. English Tourism Week lasted from 5th March - 13th March, and consisted of a week-long celebration of events showcasing the quality and value of the local and English tourism industry.
Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire said: “The tourism industry is of great importance locally and nationally, and I'm keen to support its growth as MP for South Leicestershire. We have a range of attractions and facilities across the constituency, which play a crucial role in the local sector and it's great to hear from some of those organisations today. I would encourage all to visit the goeicestershire.com website to see what options are available and to take advantage of the excellent offering we have across both the county and the city."
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicestershire Promotions added: "Tourism is a vital sector for economic growth in Alberto's consitituency of South Leicestershire and for Leicester and Leicestershire as a whole. English Tourism Week is a great opportunity for MPs such as Alberto, along with tourism businesses, stakeholders, residents and most importantly, visitors, to showcase and celebrate all that's great about local tourism."
Mr Costa concluded, "It was a pleasure to meet representatives from local businesses such as those from the Leicester Marriott Hotel, Everards Brewery, Hilton Leicester, Badgers Mount Hotel and Bruntingthorpe Events. These meetings are essential in order to discuss the integral ways we can all work to increase tourism in the County and make Leicestershire a vibrant tourist destination."
