On Tuesday 19th April 2016, Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, welcomed Councillors from South Leicestershire to Parliament.
A group of local Councillors and their friends and family were given a tour of Parliament, followed by an opportunity to hear debates in both the Commons and the Lords. After this, the group was joined by Mr Costa for afternoon tea, before visiting the terrace as well as St Mary's Undercroft.
Mr Costa said, "It was great to welcome the group to Parliament and join them for afternoon tea. I would like to thank Ruth Morrison for organising yet another successful trip, we are very grateful for her ongoing dedication and support in ensuring parliament is accessible to all.
Many have never visited Parliament before and it was a pleasure to join the group and answer their questions on the day."
Councillor Terry Richardson, Leader of Blaby District Council said, "We would like to thank Alberto for taking the time to meet the group and help in showing us around. The trip reinforces how lucky we are to live in a democractic society and have the right and privilege to vote."
Councillor Marion Broomhead, Chairman of Blaby District Council said, "It was a fantastic day and we were well looked after from start to finish. It was excellent to be able to see both Houses of Parliament; we had a superb day which was enjoyed by all."
Mr Costa concluded, "As I said to the group yesterday, there will always remain an open invite for all constituents to come to Parliament. Parliament belongs to the people and it is important that it remains as accessibe as possible to all."
