On Friday 15th July, South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa attended the Dementia Café event in Lutterworth. The monthly event, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, is designed to bring together those living with Dementia and their carers in a social environment in order to encourage wellbeing.
The Alzheimer’s Society are the UK’s leading Dementia support and research charity, providing practical and emotional support to those living the dementia.
Alberto said, “I was delighted to attend the Memory Café event in Lutterworth earlier today. I had visited the café previously before I was elected in 2015, however I was very pleased to return today and see so many familiar faces”.
Alberto concluded, “There are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today and that number is due to rise to one million by 2021 and that’s why increased support and research in this field is so important. We all know someone, be they friends or family, who are affected by dementia and that reiterates why events of this nature are so important, it’s a real testament to the very good work the Alzheimer’s Society are doing in helping to support those living with dementia”.
