On Friday 4th November, South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, visited Leicester Cathedral to meet with Cathedral staff and to hear about their refurbishment programme, ‘Leicester Cathedral Revealed’.
Alberto met with the Director of the Cathedral’s refurbishment programme, Pete Hobson, and the Chair of the Leicester Cathedral’s Campaign Panel, Gordon Arthur.
Alberto said, “It was a real pleasure to visit Leicester Cathedral earlier today and to hear of their exciting plans for the Cathedral’s refurbishment. Of course, it’s a beautiful building, but as parts of it date back almost a thousand years it’s quite understandable that it may be in need of some repair hence why I was so enthused to hear Pete and Gordon’s excellent plans”.
Mr Hobson added, ““We were delighted to welcome Alberto to the Cathedral, and sharing more of our plans for the future. The Diocese of Leicester takes in at least 10 parliamentary constituencies, and its Cathedral is a cultural and spiritual landmark for our city and county. We very much welcome the interest and support of our MPs in helping us renew a historic Cathedral for the needs of the 21st century and beyond.”
Alberto concluded, “The city of Leicester has rightly been experiencing something of a renaissance over the past few years, both in terms of their footballing and historical exploits, and as such the Cathedral has seen a large increase in the number of visitors. While this is, of course, excellent news, it does bring new demands to the Cathedral and its facilities, hence why I’m delighted to support their plans for refurbishment to ensure that this wonderful Cathedral can be here for at least another thousand years”.
