On Friday 11th November, Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, visited the new Community Library in Sapcote to meet with members of the library’s committee and to hold a constituency surgery for the people of the village and the surrounding area.
The Community Library, which was previously operated by Leicestershire County Council, was one of several village libraries to be transferred over from the Council to Parish Councils and volunteer organisations.
Alberto said, “It was a pleasure to visit the Sapcote Community Library on Friday and to see the excellent work the library’s committee and the other volunteers have been doing to ensure that this vitally important provision is kept open for the benefit of all in Sapcote”.
Mr Mervin Wallace, the Library’s Marketing Co-ordinator, said, “As our new Community Library in Sapocte continues to grow, I am very pleased and very thankful for Mr Costa’s support in holding his constituency surgery here with us. It’s a real step forward in publicising the community element of the library as we continue to enhance the community spirit of the village as a whole. For those local residents who might be interested in hearing more, regular news and updates can be found on our website and Facebook page”.
Alebrto concluded, “Libraries, especially in smaller villages such as Sapcote, often act as a hub and meeting place for the local community and so I was delighted to add to the community atmosphere by holding my constituency surgery here. The turnout for the surgery was excellent, and it was great to see so many local people dropping in and using the library and its services, I very much look forward to visiting again and holding another surgery here soon”.
