On Friday 18th November, South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa visited the Millfield LEAD Academy in Braunstone Town to speak to the school’s assembly about ‘National Anti-Bullying Week’ and this year’s theme the ‘Power for Good’.
Coordinated by the Anti-Bulling Alliance, ‘National Anti-Bullying Week’ shines a spotlight on bullying and encourages all children, teachers, parents and carers to take action against bullying throughout the year.
Alberto said, “It was a pleasure to visit Millfield LEAD Academy on Friday morning, Anti-Bullying Week is a terrific campaign and one that I’m very pleased to support and proud to promote in local schools across South Leicestershire. I was struck by the pupil’s enthusiasm for the campaign and strongly agree that we should all work together - from politicians in Westminster to children in classrooms - to ensure that bullying becomes a thing of the past”.
Millfield LEAD Academy Headteacher, Mr Pete Wood, added, “We were very pleased that Alberto was able to join us in order to take an assembly, tour the school and to meet with the School’s Council. With it being Anti-Bullying Week we were very keen to hear of the work that Alberto and others in Parliament do to address bullying on a national scale. The pupils were also excited to hear more about democracy and how the democratic process works, and so we able to bring this to life by talking to and questioning our local MP. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children and really deepens their understanding of our country's democratic process”.
Alberto concluded, “This year’s theme, ‘Power for Good’, is an incredibly important notion that empowers both children and adults, either at school or in the workplace, to challenge bullying when it first begins, this is a message I would encourage everyone to adopt so we that can create safer environments for all to thrive”.
