Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, has praised the ‘excellent crop’ of award winning Christmas Trees at Oakberry Trees in Dunton Bassett near Lutterworth.
Run by Mr Richard Underwood and his wife, Gail, Oakberry Trees, have previously supplied a Christmas tree to the Prime Minister’s House at 10 Downing Street after taking second prize in the Champion Christmas Tree Grower award at the 14th Annual British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA) in 2012.
Now one of Oakberry’s trees will be taking pride of place in their local MP’s front room.
Alberto said, “The festive season is coming round very quickly and so I was delighted to purchase this year’s Christmas tree from one Leicestershire’s best Christmas tree farms. My family and I bought one of Richard and Gail’s excellent trees last year and we’re looking forward to receiving the new one in a few weeks’ time”.
Owner of Oakberry Trees, Mr Richard Underwood, added, “Once again, it was a pleasure to welcome our local MP to our farm, I know he and his family enjoy visiting and riding round the farm to choose their new tree. As a business, we’re constantly expanding and creating more room so we’re very pleased to have the support of our local MP, Alberto. A six foot Christmas tree usually takes about seven or eight years to fully grow and so we’ve just planted 6,000 new trees which should be ready for Christmas 2022”.
Alberto concluded, “It was great to speak to Richard and Gail about the year round hard work they put in to yield such an excellent crop of trees and, as always, I was very encouraged to hear that a local business was doing so well. I’m very proud that we have a fairly unique local, family business in South Leicestershire and I wish them every success for the yuletide season”.
