South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa has expressed his delight at the new improvements made to Narborough Railway Station, including safety upgrades to the passenger footbridge across the railway line and the refurbishment of the passenger ticket office and passenger toilets.
Alberto, who visited the station on Friday 3rd November, met with representatives from Network Rail and East Midlands Trains to see the improvements made and also discussed future plans for the station.
Alberto said, “It was a pleasure to visit Narborough Station and to see the new and improved services available for my constituents. Narborough, as the only station in South Leicestershire, is a vital piece of the constituency’s local infrastructure and enhances the area’s local and regional connectivity, hence why I was delighted to see the excellent improvements made by both East Midlands Trains and Network Rail”.
Graham Taylorson, Senior Asset Engineer at Network Rail, added ‘Network Rail recognises the importance of Narborough station to the communities and economies which the railway serves in South Leicestershire. That is why we acted quickly to renew the staircase treads and decking of the unique and historic footbridge. This work is now complete and the bridge continues to allow access to the platforms at Narborough so that trains can provide highly valued connectivity for passengers”.
Duncan Cale, Stakeholder Manager for East Midlands Trains, said: “We are pleased to have been able to continue our investment at Narborough station with the refurbishment of the footbridge and the improvements to the ticket office and toilets. Over the past ten years of our franchise, we have invested millions of pounds in improving customer facilities and we’re confident the changes at Narborough will make a great difference for our customers”.
Alberto concluded, “I am pleased that both East Midlands Trains and Network Rail recognise the importance and significance of Narborough Train Station to my constituents, and I am encouraged that they have made the necessary improvements to ensure that the station provides a user friendly and accessible hassle-free service to my constituents and other travelers”.
