South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has welcomed the Government’s announcement that local authorities in Leicestershire have been successful in their application to take part in a new Business Rates Pilot that will allow councils to retain more rates for better local investment and growth.
The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, The Rt. Hon James Brokenshire MP, announced that the county was one of 15 applications that were successful for the new Government Pilot, allowing councils to retain 75% of rates for 2019/20.
Alberto said, “This is a very welcome announcement from the Government, and brilliant news for the local authorities in my constituency; Blaby District Council, Harborough District Council and Leicestershire County Council, meaning that councils can benefit directly from supporting and stimulating local business growth across Leicestershire”.
Alberto concluded, “I regular meet with the Leaders of the local authorities affecting my constituents and I know that this is something that these councils have been working very hard for and I am pleased that the Government have delivered on their commitment to support local authorities across the country. This scheme rewards councils for supporting local business and local jobs and will help give a tremendous boost to both the local and national economy”.
