Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, has backed local reisdents in their opposition to plans for a new gypsy site off Sycamore Street in Blaby.
A newly revised application for the site has recently been submitted after a previous application was withdrawn last year. The new proposal asks for permission to construct two residential gypsy pitches, alongside room for mobile homes, touring caravans and a utility block. The previous application attracted over 500 objections from residents in just over a few weeks.
The site in question was also previously the subject of an enforcement notice being issued following the removal of protected trees without prior permission.
Alberto said, ‘I am very disappointed to see this application has been resubmitted to Blaby District Council, albeit in a revised form. Unfortunately, the slight revision has done nothing to address the very serious concerns of my constituents who have again contacted my office in large numbers. The same concerns from the previous application remain, with the site’s location in the Blaby Conservation Area, it’s proximity to Bouskell Park and the previous clearing of protecting trees still standing firm in the minds of my constituents”.
Alberto added, “I entirely agree with and share the concerns of local residents in opposing these plans, while the decision in this case is not for a Member of Parliament, I have today written to Blaby District Council to inform them of the strength of feeling many residents have over this application. I have every confidence that Blaby District’s brilliant Planning Team and Planning Committee will give this application the necessary scrutiny it deserves, and ensure that the views and concerns of my constituents are heard accordingly”.
