Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, has hailed the ‘fantastic work of the community’ in Cosby during a visit to see the village’s Yarn Bomb and meet the event’s organisers alongside Blaby District Councillors.
Alberto visited Cosby’s Yarn Bomb which has seen part of the village’s trees and green spaces decorated with colourful displays of knitted and crocheted yarn. The annual event has been organised by the Cosby Crafters group with a funding grant awarded by Cosby Parish Council.
This year’s Cosby Yarn Bomb began on Friday 21st August, and will stay up until Monday 21st September.
Alberto said, “It was such a huge pleasure to visit Cosby’s brilliant Yarn Bomb and to see the fantastic work of the community in the village. The Cosby Crafters, with help from the local Parish Council, have done a huge amount of work to get the Yarn Bomb up and running despite the difficult circumstances we all find ourselves in this year. It’s great to see the community really coming together behind the Yarn Bomb, and it’s excellent too to see so many people flocking into the village from miles away to see this wonderful community spectacle”.
Blaby District Councillor for Cosby with South Whetstone, and Parish Manager at Cosby Parish Council, Les Phillimore added, “As we emerge from the challenges of Covid-19, the Yarn Bomb has brought a real rainbow of sunshine to the village. The widespread recognition of the display, and the hard work of the Cosby Crafters, only serves to underline the brilliant community spirit we have in Cosby, and long may that continue”.
Alberto concluded, ‘My sincere thanks to Melanie, Natalie, the Cosby Crafters Group and the village’s Parish Council for all of their tremendous work in making the Yarn Bomb such a huge success. For many, myself included, the Yarn Bomb has been a real highlight in what has been a difficult year for so many. It’s great to see the community really turnout to support this event, and I’m already looking forward to visiting again next year!”.
