Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, has called for action following a number of recent accidents at the Foxhunter roundabout in Enderby.
Alberto, who has previously written to Leicestershire County Council to request the installation of a traffic signal camera or speed camera at the roundabout, is due to meet local County and District Councillors, County Council officials and Leicestershire Police later this week to discuss how safety can be improved at the busy junction.
The meeting comes following several recent accidents at the roundabout including a collision in June, earlier this year, in which a vehicle hit two other cars and flipped before landing in resident’s front gardens.
Alberto said, “I know Leicestershire County Council have made improvements to the Foxhunter roundabout in previous years, however the recent spate of accidents at this junction is simply unacceptable. Constituents in Enderby are understandably concerned about the safety of the roundabout, and it is quite clear that further measures are needed to slow traffic down here and reduce the number of collisions before someone becomes seriously injured”.
Leicestershire County Councillor for the Enderby & Lubbesthorpe Division, Louise Richardson added, “Many residents in Enderby are deeply worried about the number of accidents at the Foxhunter Roundabout in recent months. I have been working alongside Alberto and Cheryl Cashmore, my fellow District Councillor in Enderby, on this issue for some time, and it is important that we find a solution to address resident’s concerns and improve safety for all using the junction”.
Alberto added, “One of the more recent accidents at the roundabout in which a car ended up flipped on its roof in a constituent’s garden, only serves to underline the importance of improving the safety measures here in order to avoid serious or even fatal injury. Improvements in traffic signals are welcome of course, but clearly further and more substantive action is required, and I will be asking both the County Council and Leicestershire Police to look into undertaking this”.
