Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, has called on the Government to provide a greater package of support to pubs across the country following the localised tier restrictions coming into force effective yesterday (2nd December).
Following discussions with South Leicestershire-based Everards Brewery and a number of landlords from county pubs, Mr Costa has today written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer formally requesting a ‘targeted support package’ for pubs and hospitality businesses who have been forced to close under Tier 3 restrictions.
Alberto said, “My office has been contacted by a number of pub landlords from across South Leicestershire over the past few days, deeply concerned as to their future under the Tier 3 restrictions we are facing in the county. Given the high rates of infection locally, I support the restrictions in place, however it is imperative that businesses in the hospitality sector are given the proper level of support to assist them while they are required to close”.
Alberto added, “Local pubs and the fantastic Everards Brewery, based in my constituency, have taken considerable lengths to ensure their premises safe for staff and patrons, however far too often businesses in this sector have faced the sharp end of Covid restrictions. In many areas pubs are the focal point for our communities and they simply cannot afford to be lost, hence why I am very pleased to making the case to the Chancellor directly on this issue”.
