MP for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, has received assurances from the Vaccine Minister that his constituents and residents of the county will not need to travel more than ten miles to receive their dose of the Coronavirus vaccine.
Speaking in Health Questions in the House of Commons earlier this week (12th January), Alberto asked the Minister for Vaccine Deployment, Nadhim Zahawi MP, for assurances that constituents ‘from Broughton Astley to Braunstone Town, Thorpe Astley to Arnesby’ will have good and easy access to the Coronavirus vaccine locally.
Alberto also asked for confirmation on plans to reopen the Feilding Palmer Hospital in Lutterworth as a designated Hospital Vaccination Hub and was informed that the hospital was being ‘actively considered’, an announcement Mr Costa welcomed.
Alberto said, “I was very pleased to receive assurances from the Vaccine Minister that my constituents in South Leicestershire, as well as residents in the wider county, will have good, easy access to the Covid vaccine locally, and that no one will be required to travel more than ten miles to receive their dose.”.
Alberto added, “This is the largest vaccination programme in British history, and as such, this is a mammoth task for our brilliant NHS and Government to undertake and therefore, maintaining easy access for as many people as possible is the key factor here. We have already made tremendous progress with over 2.5 million in the UK having now received the vaccine, and I look forward to continue making the case for more local vaccination centres, such as Feilding Palmer, in the coming weeks to ensure my constituents and others can receive the vaccine without needing to travel too far”.
