South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, has cut the ribbon to unveil Blaby Parish Council’s new ‘Forget You Not Memorial Tree and Post Box’ during a ceremony at Blaby Cemetery.
The new memorial tree is made from 240 Corten steel green granite leaves and is set in the Tranquillity Peace Meadow Area within Blaby Cemetery. The Village Parish Council have created the new memorial tree to allow relatives and loved ones to spend time reflecting and remembering memories of relatives and friends that have passed away.
A leaf can be purchased from the Parish Council and engraved with the name of a loved one along with a small inscription, allowing the names of the deceased to live on whether they have been cremated or buried within the cemetery or elsewhere.
The new ‘Forget You Not Post Box’ is located in the cemetery’s wildflower garden, with each eco-friendly ‘Forget You Not’ envelope containing a recycled card and a small packet of wildflower seeds where thoughts and memories can be put to paper and posted in the postbox.
Alberto said, “I was honoured to join the Chairman of Blaby Parish Council and members of the South Leicestershire community in cutting the ribbon and formally unveiling the new ‘Forget You Not Memorial Tree and Post Box’ in Blaby Cemetery. This was a very moving and solemn occasion, and both the new Memorial Tree and Post Box are a wonderful addition to the cemetery, providing local people with a place to reflect on cherished memories of their loved ones.
I would like to thank Blaby Parish Council for their inspired work in creating these new memorials at Blaby Cemetery, I am sure that the people of South Leicestershire will be most grateful for the thought and kindness that has gone into establishing these thoughtful and moving features”.
