South Leicestershire MP, Alberto Costa, recently met with farmers from across his constituency and representatives from the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) to discuss a number of issues including food security, the right to roam and the food supply chain.
The MP was hosted by local farmer Nick Lane at his family farm at Brastley House in Broughton Astley, and was joined by other South Leicestershire farmers and representatives from the local branch of the NFU.
Alberto said, “I was delighted to meet with Nick and a host of other fantastic farmers from across South Leicestershire to discuss their thoughts and concerns on a range of local matters, from rural crime to the cost of produce in supermarkets. Our Great British farmers work tirelessly all year round to feed the nation, and I was grateful for the opportunity to speak to them at Nick’s lovely farm in Broughton Astley.
I am proud that the Government is committed to supporting our Great British farmers, and I was very pleased to meet Nick and other farmers, alongside the excellent NFU, to hear more about their work in producing some of the world’s finest produce here in South Leicestershire.”
